9 – Three-Grain Cereal with Dates and Cinnamon

  • Boil salted water in a medium pan and cook the pearled barley for 30 minutes until tender
  • Drain the cooked barley and rinse extra water
  • Combine quinoa, a pinch of salt, and half-cup water and bring to a boil
  • Cover the lid and cook until the water is absorbed on low heat for 15 minutes
  • In a heatproof bowl, cover the dates with boiling water for 1 minute
  • Drain the dates and let them cool – peel them and chop into half-inch pieces
  • In another pan, boil oats with a pinch of salt and 2 cups of water –cook on medium heat for 4 minutes
  • Add quinoa, cooked barley, cinnamon, and chopped dates, and cook/stir until thickened for 3 minutes
  • Serve in bowls with a sprinkle of remaining chopped dates
